Mission Statement

The Aawpfestival seeks to celebrate African literature and literary legends, empower African women, women of African descent and the African Diaspora, educate the youth, and engage with marginalized communities through sustainable events, programming, and projects. Aawpfestival invites the community to engage with and promote authentic African Stories through poetry and folklore, offering an innovative cultural platform to discover new ideas.

Women

Celebrating the voices and creativity of African women in literature. Fostering a sense of identity and empowerment among female poets and literary enthusiasts. Addressing important women-centric themes through poetry.

Outreach

Reaching out to pregnant market women and head porters (Kayaye), addressing their unique challenges. Celebrating the diverse voices of African women in literature. Empowering marginalized school communities through artistic expression.

Empowering Youth
Through Education

Engaging secondary school students through an inter-school spoken word competition. Teaching African literature and nurturing a love for poetry. Providing students with the opportunity to express themselves and build their self-confidence.
